Grants Stories : Commedia of Errors Theatre Company

1 Oct 2020

With the support of a grant from The Arts Society The Commedia Of Errors Theatre Company has been touring and taking their lively Plays Aloud performances into the heart of the homes of those that are most at risk of missing out on cultural participation, but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the project had to be reimagined and reshaped to fit with the new rules around social distancing.

Part way through their project, The Commedia of Errors Theatre Company had to adapt their in-person performances and created Plays Aloud at Home, an all new digital version of the company’s highly successful Plays Aloud project. Due to COVID-19, the company were unable to tour their traditional project and so it was necessary to adapt their work to ensure they could still reach their audiences who are more isolated than ever. During August, the company brought a brand new live and interactive televisual experience to older audiences through a combination of live streaming and video conferencing software.

Performances were beamed direct to the TV’s of care homes, folds and dementia specialist facilities across Northern Ireland, before culminating in a live show for the public on 22nd August, streamed directly into audiences’ living rooms via tablets, computers and smart TV’s.
