Golden Jubilee ArtsFest

Golden Jubilee ArtsFest

21 Feb 2018

In recognition of our Golden Jubilee year, a national initiative to showcase members` artworks was launched last year.  At the September, October and November meetings we held our ArtsFest exhibitions and the range and high standard of the artwork was astonishing.  We were treated to sculpture, jewellery, paintings, photography, ceramics, calligraphy, woodwork, textiles, engraved glass, decoupage, mosaic and handmade books among other skills and the exhibitions were received enthusiastically by the members.  The 25 artists who participated also provided biographies so that their artistic journey could be shared.
In line with the national guidelines for the event, members were asked to vote for their favourite piece of artwork – this proved to be quite an onerous task as the choice was overwhelming!  However, voting did take place and the results were as follows:
1st place:   Shoes and handbag entitled `Cherry Blossom` by Jackie Wyatt
2nd place:  Sculptures of `Justin, Joanna and Jack Revere` by John Allen
3rd place:  Textile piece entitled `Jurassic Coast triptych` by Linda Clifford
We offer our congratulations to the three winners!  A photograph of Jackie`s entry will go forward to an Area Event in the Spring and will feature digitally at the national AGM and on the official website in due course. We should like to thank all of the artists who took part and made it such a successful and enjoyable event.
Interest in ArtsFest has prompted a date for the diary – we will be holding a similar event on a regular basis in the future and our next exhibition of members` work will be in February 2019 – so there is time to get creative!
