GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION LUNCH

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION LUNCH

30 Apr 2018

Last Friday (20 April) almost 400 members and friends of The Arts Society from throughout the UK and mainland Europe attended a celebration lunch at Epsom Racecourse to mark the Golden Anniversary.

The event was organised by a small group of members from Surrey and huge thanks are due to them and to the Jockey Club, who allowed use of the Duchess’s stand for the event. Also to our travel affiliates, Travel Editions and many local enterprises for their generous donations of raffle prizes.

During the opening reception, local artists and art clubs provided displays and exhibitions of their own artwork and crafts, many of which were for sale. They appreciated the opportunity to promote themselves and for us it was a fitting way to be able to acknowledge The Arts Society’s commitment to all aspects of the Arts, the practical creation as well as the learning and conservation side.

After lunch, guests were treated to a presentation by Linda Collins of entertaining anecdotes from our Lecturers’ viewpoint, followed by a thought-provoking and inspirational talk by our President, Loyd Grossman.

The sunshine highlighting the beauty of the surrounding countryside of the Downs made the day perfect and everyone agreed the event had been a very appropriate way to mark the Golden Anniversary. As a result over £8,000 will be donated to the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund to maximise the grants we are able to give to creative artists and makers during 2018.
