Driffield Wolds Visit to the Auckland Project

Members had a packed day getting round the many features in Bishop Auckland. Highlights included Francisco de Zurbaran's portraits of Jacob and his Twelve Sons displayed in the Bishop's Palace, the Miners Art Gallery, the Spanish Gallery, the Auckland Tower with views across the town and surrounding countryside, the Deer Park with its deer enclosure, the Walled Garden and the Faith Museum. The latter included the Binchester Ring, the earliest known Christian artefact in the UK and also a chilling depiction of life and death in other parts of the world.
An unexpected bonus was the filming of "Digging for Britain" with Professor Alice Roberts on site.
