Charity Grants: CREATE

Charity Grants: CREATE

28 Jan 2019

Create received a grant from The Arts Society in 2017 which enabled it to run Nurturing Talent, a professional development programme providing five emerging professional artists with the training and experience to develop creative workshop facilitation skills in diverse and challenging community settings. The programme enabled the artists to develop their own creative practice and workshop leadership abilities through peer support and under the guidance of an established and award-winning creative arts charity. Each artist attended six professional development training days, facilitated 36 workshops with vulnerable and disadvantaged participants, and designed and delivered their own Create workshop in a community setting. All the artists joined Create’s pool of freelance artists on their completion of the programme.

One artist who took part in Nurturing Talent commented, “The amount of experience has been so valuable to what I do. My outlook on other groups, my prejudices, have been challenged by meeting people and hearing their stories.” Another said, “I definitely feel more confident delivering workshops and making relationships with a group of people I don’t know quickly, in order to get the best out of them and make sure that they gain lots out of the project.”
