Beneath Our Feet Exhibition at The Willis Museum Basingstoke
20 Jun 2024
The culmination of our work this year with schools and colleges is brought together in a wonderful exhibition at the Willis Museum, Basingstoke. The exhibition runs from 8th June to 14th July. Please take time to visit and you will be impressed.
Of particular note is the project 'Beneath our Feet', which outlines and showcases the final collaborative art work which was put together with Winklebury Junior School children under the aegis of ourselves and textile artist Vanessa Rolf, who put heart and soul into enthusing both staff and pupils and ourselves as volunteers in this archaeological project with a textile art outcome.
Alongside this work, are photos of the cushion making and sewing project at Winklebury Junior School, the fantastic 'Print like William Morris' project we undertook with St Bede's Catholic Primary School and work recently removed from the night exit at the Basingstoke Railway Station's night exit by QMC students ( A new exhibit has taken its place there.) and photocopied work of that on display in Waiting Rooms 1 and 4 at the station by students from The Vyne School.
A number of members worked hard to display the work on 6th June ready for the official opening on June 7th, with guests including Mayor Councillor Dan Putty.
Huge thanks in particular need to go to Chair Gill Waller, whose vision this was and who worked so hard to mount the work. Also of course textile artist, Vanessa Rolf, who was inspiring at all times.
