The Arts Society Welwyn Garden visit to Charleston
6 May 2024
On 24th April a coach party of TASWG members enjoyed a visit to Charleston in Sussex.
The home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant holds an eclectic collection of furniture and artworks. Upon moving in, Bell and Grant painted every surface in the house, transforming it into a work of art.
Before returning home we also visited small rural Berwick Church where, in 1941, the Bishop of Chichester commissioned the Bloomsbury artists to decorate the interior. The results are stunning and quite different to anything seen in most churches. An altogether very interesting and enlightening day!
