The Arts Society Kington Langley Timothy Wilcox gave a very topical lecture on CLIMATE DISASTERS, PAST AND PRESENT. Flood, fire and frost
8 Mar 2023
Timothy managed to avoid the snow as he came to Kington Langley yesterday.
He looked at how we talk about weather and climate now and how art through the centuries has reflected, depicted, celebrated and engaged with climate change and disasters through the years.
We looked at images from Brueghal to Picasso, and contemporary images from Iceland to South Africa.
Timothy's slides from 1963 when the snow lay from December until March brought back memories for us all.
This excellent lecture clarified how climate change is such a huge environmental anxiety that we all need to engage with and how images are more powerful than lists of statistics
