The Arts Society Great Ouse Valley Announcement

Dear Friends,

Many of you, I know, will be concerned about the developing situation with Coronavirus and as your Committee, so are we. None of us were alive when the world dealt with the last pandemic of Spanish ‘flu in 1918! We are in unchartered waters and it is difficult to plan ahead.

The Arts Society HQ have today cancelled all Area meetings, hub days, training days, the directory day, study days and trips until 30th April. As your Chairman and in conjunction with the Committee and HQ, we have decided to postpone our Society Art Talks in March, April, May and June, starting again, with renewed vigour in September.

As you are aware, our annual membership subscription runs from April to March, but we plan to postpone the start of our next year and run from September 2020 to August 2021. For those of you who have already renewed, we will automatically move this to September; for those of you who are still to renew, please find renewal form on the website. 

This situation, is deeply disappointing and is really bad timing for our Society as we will still have considerable financial commitments to meet. Today we received our beautiful newly designed programme card, which will need reprinting, we have deposits that are non-refundable etc. However, such financial hits for our Society are worth taking so that we can do all we can to slow Covid 19 down and help “flatten the curve”.

We hope that our postponed lectures will be rescheduled for a years’ time and once the programme card is re-printed we send these out in the post.

Our AGM will be on 15th September 7.15pm and we look forward to seeing you then for a talk by Mark Ovenden ‘150 Years of London Underground Design’.

In the meantime, please do renew your membership and support your society.
