Art @ the Station

Art @ the Station

15 May 2017

Travellers at Guildford station now have an inspiring art exhibition of local schools’ art to look at whilst waiting for their train. The Arts Society Guildford, in partnership with South West Trains, have funded and installed a rolling exhibition of local students' work in the Waiting Room on Platform 3 & 4 at Guildford station.

The art will change each term giving passengers something new to look at and more students the opportunity to showcase their work in a public exhibition space. The project launched with the work of four Guildford County A-level photography students and shows a breadth of styles and subject matter. Future exhibitions will feature work from a number of local schools.

David Walthew, South West Trains Guildford station duty manager, said "SWT were very pleased to be able to support this great community project which has already made an impact and had lots of positive feedback from passengers and staff at the station who have appreciated the quality and variety of the work exhibited."

Jack Mayhew, Head Teacher Guildford County School: "Guildford County is delighted to have been selected to launch this important local art initiative, Art @ the Station, gives art students an incredible opportunity to show their work beyond the classroom, an invaluable opportunity for aspiring artists to reach a wider audience through public exhibition."

Albie, Guildford County School A-level student: "It’s great to have my work on show in such a professional way, where lots of people can see it. I didn’t think anyone other than the examiners would ever see it!"

The iniative is also running at Haslemere and Farnham stations.
