The Arts Society Guildford, Art Award 2019
Inspired by our highly successful project, Art @ the Station, which provides the chance for local schools to use SWRailway Station Waiting Rooms as public art gallerys in Farncombe, Guildford and Woking we have awarded an Art Prize for 2019 of £250.
The local schools that had created artwork for display were invited to apply for the Award by responding to a Brief drawn up by our Young Arts Representative, Liz Collins. The proposals were evaluated and the Art Award was won by St. Thomas of Canterbury Primary School in Merrow, Guildford for their excellent proposal to create a mural in the school grounds. The children will create the mural working alongside local artist, Helen Brady.
The Arts Society Guildford hopes to make this an annual event. Art @ the Station has been a huge success with SWR and the local schools community. Passengers and station staff appreciate and enjoy the students work which changes on a termly basis and schools and their students love the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience. Such is the success of the scheme schools are approaching us to take part and are joining a waiting list for Art @ the Station !
