Welcome to The Arts Society Dartmoor

Originally founded in 1968 as NADFAS, The Arts Society is an organisation based on a love of the Arts in all its forms and incarnations. Its main objective is the promotion and advancement of art in all its forms and the aesthetic education of the public, cultivation, appreciation of the decorative and fine arts and the giving of aid to the preservation of our national artistic heritage for the benefit of the general public. Apart from this, it also gives its members a great deal of pleasure and enjoyment.

Founded in 2012 The Arts Society Dartmoor meets ten times per annum for lectures on a wide range of topics. These lectures are given by experienced and highly qualified lecturers who are experts in their chosen field. A full description is in the 'Programme' section.

IN THE MOOD FOR ENCHANTMENT:
The spell-binding beauty of fashion from the house of Dior

Lecturer - Anne Haworth

Unfortunately, due to family commitments, Rosemary Hawthorne, aka the Knicker Lady, is not able to make her presentation this month. 
 
Anne Haworth is an Arts Society accredited lecturer and has been a lecturer and guide at the Victoria and Albert Museum for more than 20 years along with regular gallery talks at the British Museum. She was a lecturer for the Royal Collection Trust for 14 years, including 10 years guiding private tours of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.  After studying Modern History at Durham University, she trained and became a senior specialist in ceramics at the head offices in London of Bonhams (1981-1986) and Christie's (1987-1995). From 1995 to 2002, she was resident in Shanghai, China and gave lectures on the history of the China trade and European Chinoiserie to the international community of diplomats and expatriates in Shanghai and Beijing. On returning to London in 2002, she worked on a project cataloguing Chinese ceramics at Kensington Palace.
