TASKL has been able to meet with the Chippenham Station Manager, Oana Apetroaie, Ann Jenner, GWR Community Delivery Manager, Sophie Martin, TransWilts Community Rail Officer to discuss ‘Art@TheStation’, a project to introduce art work at railway stations. A few stations with local Arts Societies have already got this project going so we are hoping to develop one of our own to celebrate the art work from our schools.
We have kicked off with the Outdoor Banners that celebrated some of the contemporary art that is in the Modern and Contemporary Collection at Chippenham Museum. TASKL provided the funding for these banners and they have already been displayed in the local parks. Although the collection has grown substantially since then they are a reminder and advertisement to rail users of the richness that is in Chippenham.
The banners have been attached to some of the railings outside the main exit from the station for all to see.
We are in the process of designing artwork to go onto the glass waiting rooms on the platforms. We will be in discussion with the local schools to display and celebrate their artwork and hopefully we can use some images from the current Contemporary Collection held at The Museum.
