CHILDREN’S TRAIL CELEBRATES MAYFLOWER 400 CHURCH
The Arts Society Dukeries’ latest Trail of Discovery is at St Wilfrid’s Church in Scrooby, North Nottinghamshire. The village may be small, but it is renowned, especially in the USA, for being the home of William Brewster, the Pilgrim Father. He sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 and founded the Plymouth Colony in New England, but in the early years of the 17th century Brewster’s home, Scrooby Manor House, became the meeting place for the Separatist Church. The church contains three benches, commonly known as the Brewster Pews, made up of carved 16th century bench ends. The local Brownies were the first children to complete the trail at the recent launch at the church. They were welcomed by the vicar, Rev Jackie Mckenna, and joined by members of The Arts Society Dukeries and Scrooby Parish Councillors for a most enjoyable and informative evening. The trail was printed with support from Bassetlaw District Council.
