RICHMOND SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN 'PICTURE PLAY' EXHIBITION
9 Aug 2017
Young artists from all over West London have come together to create an interactive exhibition and play with historical images.
Working with professional artists and the Orleans House Gallery education team, children and young people from throughout Richmond and neighbouring boroughs have creatively interpreted the collection for this year’s Artplay exhibition.
Experimenting with different technologies, young people have re-imagined paintings from the Richmond Borough Art Collection. Come along to explore this immersive and interactive exhibition, step inside historical paintings, participate and play!
Co-created by over 500 young people and around 200 families, the theme of the exhibition inspired young artists to think digitally and the competition encouraged them to transform their drawings of well-known Richmond sights into pixelated pictures.
Two local artists worked with 19 schools, five community groups, and 10 regular art groups at the Gallery to bring the project to life.
Cllr Meena Bond, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Arts and Culture, said: “It is very important to support young artists to pursue their dreams while inspiring others to do the same. This exhibition is a perfect example of how to accomplish both, while at the same time providing Richmond residents with the opportunity to see wonderful pieces of artwork”.
The Picture Play exhibition, funded by The Arts Society Richmond, will be displayed in the Stables Gallery at Orleans House, Twickenham until 20 August 2017. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm and entrance is free.
