The Arts Society Monmouthshire Celebrates Young Photographers
7 Aug 2026
The Arts Society Monmouthshire celebrated the success of its third regional Inter-Schools Photographic Exhibition, delivered in collaboration with Gareth Poulton at Stables Photography, Llanover.
Supported by a Society project grant, this year’s competition brought together inspiring work from primary and secondary school pupils across the region. The standard of entries was extremely high, showcasing pupils’ creativity, confidence and distinctive ways of seeing the world through photography.
The exhibition builds on a growing programme of inter-schools photography activity. In 2024, The Arts Society Monmouthshire organised a primary schools competition, followed by a secondary schools competition in 2025. This year, primary and secondary categories ran concurrently for the first time.
The response was outstanding, with 190 entries received overall, including 119 in the Years 7, 8 and 9 category. Each photograph reflects the imagination, skill and artistic promise of the young people who took part.
This year’s selected photographs were exhibited as part of the Abergavenny Arts Festival fringe, offering pupils a valuable opportunity to have their work seen by a wider audience.
