New Artwork brightens up Dorchester South Station.

The Arts Society Dorset County has worked with the Purbeck Community Rail Partnership to create 100 pieces of colourful local artwork to greet travellers while waiting for their train.

Created by pupils from Winterbourne Valley and Prince of Wales First Schools and St Mary’s CE Middle School Puddletown, the artwork is on display as colourful vinyl decals.  They are installed in two of the London-bound platform shelters, the designs consist of local Dorset and national scenes and attractions.

Steven Booth, Community Rail Officer for Purbeck, said: "What was enjoyable about this project was the enthusiasm and collaboration from the local schools to be a part of this work and the co-ordination from the Arts Society to bring the teachers and other key personnel together to deliver the artwork.

"It took a bit of time, but worth it for the final result.”

Ann Acheson, Young Arts Coordinator for The Arts Society Dorset County who spearheaded this project, was particularly pleased to support the three primary schools involved. The children involved deserved to have their art exhibited in a public place in the knowledge that so many passengers will enjoy their wonderful paintings as they travel to and from Dorchester South station.

The Arts Society’s charitable aim is to support the Arts and the Dorset County society are delighted to help fund this ‘Art @ the Station’ initiative which was conceived by The Arts Society.
