Celebrate craftspeople, their passions, skills and materials.
Why do people transform raw materials into works of art? How do their hands and tools transform these materials into works of beauty and utility? How do they see their prospects as inheritors and conduits of hand-crafted tradition in an industrialised world of mass production? Some are the last practitioners of their craft. This lecture, deriving from Jonathan Foyle's feature written for the Financial Times Weekend celebrates these craftspeople, their passions, skills and materials.
