A chance to explore the house and gardens
We are planning a trip to Syon House Park and Gardens in Brentford on Wednesday 16th September 2026. A perfect time to visit as the schools will have re-opened after summer recess and the weather is still usually warm.
Syon House has a link to Gravesend as it was the place from where Princess Pocahontas departed from when returning to America. Unfortunately, she never reached home as she contracted an illness enroute and died and was subsequently buried in Gravesend. Representatives from Syon House took part in the commemorations to mark the 400th anniversary of her death in Gravesend in 2017.
Tours of the house and gardens take place on Wednesdays at 11am and 2pm. They last between 1 and 1 and a half hours; groups of 25 or more are divided into two groups with 15 minutes between each to ensure a more manageable and therefore enjoyable tour.
There is a restaurant in The Hillier Garden Centre serving meals and also sandwiches.
Assuming the trip is viable, at the June lecture we will be offering places on a first come first served basis and taking a deposit for the coach. Because this trip involves hiring a coach, the price may vary according to how much interest is shown and how much the charge for the coach is.
There will be a sign up sheet at the May lecture for all interested parties to signal their interest so that we can gauge the viability of the coach.
