Join us at Tabley House, Knutsford, the finest example of Palladian architecture in Cheshire.
The visit will comprise a guided tour of the house and collections, with the option of lunch in the adjacent Tea Rooms. Tabley is easily accessible by car, so members can make their own way there.
Tabley House is the finest example of Palladian architecture in Cheshire. It was built in 1767 for Sir Peter Byrne Leicester by the architect John Carr of York, to replace the earlier Old Hall on a moated island. Sir Peter, and later his son, John Fleming Leicester were discerning and enthusiastic collectors of art and antiquities. The collection includes paintings by Turner, Lely, Reynolds and Lawrence and furniture by Gillow, as well as other memorabilia of the Leicester family.
The tour will commence at 10.30am and will last approximately one and a half hours. Access to the House is via the grand stone staircase at the front. For those with mobility issues, there is the use of a separate entrance and a lift, please advise in advance if you require this via booking form. The Tearoom is accessed via a ramp. There is ample free parking, just follow the signs for the Collection and Tearoom. We shall meet in front of the House at 10.15am so that we can meet our guide and start the tour promptly at 10.30am.
Lunch will be available in the Tearoom following the tour. Please indicate your choice of menu on the application form.
