What a welcome! New Members Coffee Morning

What a welcome! Coffee and cake at the Hydro Hotel!!!

The only thing larger than the slices of delicious cake this morning was the size of the welcome new members were given in the Drawing Room of the Hydro Hotel by the Eastbourne Arts Society committee.

Stepping into the warm of the hotel reception from the cold,crisp but sunny morning, I was greeted by Maggie who was showing new members where to put their coats and inviting them to sport a name badge.

Any anxiety one felt at being a ‘newbie’ was quickly dispelled by the relaxed atmosphere and a host of friendly faces. There was plenty of room for us all to sit in small groups in comfy chairs where we were served coffee and tea and plus-size slices of cake. It was the ideal set-up to meet and chat to other new members. It was quite surprising how many subjects we managed to cover in such a short space of time.  There was general agreement that the lectures we had been to thus far had been of a very high standard and we are looking forward to what’s to come next year. Speakers are booked until May 2027.

Chris, as Chairman, welcomed us all and introduced other committee members; Maggie (Membership Secretary), Mon (Honorary Secretary), Peter (Treasurer), Adrian (Events Secretary) Terry ( Programme Secretary) and Doris (Hospitality). As a new member it was great to have the opportunity to put faces to names and it struck me how well everyone seemed to get along together. More volunteers are always welcome, however, especially   and the committee would love it if some of the new members could become involved. We heard that while membership of other arts societies is dwindling, by contrast, Eastbourne Arts Society is thriving and actually has a waiting list. For one new member this comes as no surprise.
