Whitwell Trail Report -   First Trail of Discovery for North – East Derbyshire

The Arts Society Dukeries, which has members from three neighbouring counties, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, has made many local trails for children and adults. It has now created its first Trail of Discovery in Derbyshire, at St Lawrence’s Church in Whitwell. The trail was launched by both Year 5 and 6 children from the two local primary schools in June and is now available at the church for all visitors, both on paper and on a poster with QR code. The children had a wonderful time with their teaching staff and other helpers exploring and finding answers and they were rewarded afterwards with a drink, biscuits, a certificate and a sticker. Although they visit St Lawrence regularly with their schools, many of the children had never noticed the two swords from the Civil War which were found locally and are now proudly displayed in this beautiful church.
