TAS Arden Support a local Film Maker

9 Dec 2024

The Arts Society Arden were pleased to be able to sponsor the local Film Director, Carl Woods, to make a film about Solihull titled “The Borough Speaks”. Carl showed the film for the first time at the Xmas Luncheon on 2 December and held a lively Q&A session afterwards.  It certainly created a lot of healthy debate!

The short video was a short form of both video and photography based around four different character portraits of locals from around the area.

Carl Woods intends to further this body of work in 2025.

Carl is a very passionate young film maker and director who uses film to try and break prejudice around disability and the under-represented voices of different cultures. He has directed, shot and edited films celebrating family, food and community, highlighting why the West Midlands region is so special. He has self- funded some of his films, a major film with some sponsorship from him and the RDA released via Amazon “My Everest”, worked for brands, such as The Big Issue with Citroen for example, and trained young would-be film makers and concentrated on short videos of local talent.

In supporting his efforts we believe it will further support Arts in the Community and we hope other Midlands Arts Societies will continue to support his work in the future.
