Exploring the Art of Church Recording

DId you know that this year is the 50th Anniversary of Church Recording?

The Arts Society North Bucks has an enthusastic group of church recorders, engaged on this valuable task contributing to the national record of arts and heritage in churches at the V & A Museum. The activity has always been carried out by  volunteer groups of  Arts Society (previously NADFAS) members all over the UK. It is now managed by the Church Recording Society, established in 2021.

We'd like to make members more aware of the activity, so on Wednesday 16 October we are offering an opportunity to learn more about the Church Records produced by recorders, and  three of the subject areas covered in them - Stonework, Woodwork and Memorials. You can talk to our recorders about what they do, and experienced recorders from elsewhere will advise about techniques for describing and researching objects in a church.

The venue is All Saints Church, Emberton, Olney MK46 5DD

Timing:

From 10:00 Coffee / tea available.
10:15 - 10:45 apprpx. Introductory session.
11:00 - 12:30 Split into 3 groups to discuss objects in the church with recorders: you choose between Stonework, Woodwork or Memorials.
12:30 -1:30 Lunch is provided for a donation of £5 (or you can bring your own if you prefer).
1:30 - 3:00 In specialist groups again, but this time please choose a different topic
3:00 Informal discussion, plus tea and cakes!
