Travelling by Tuba - Around the world in 60 minutes!
This year a new event was added to the Shaldon Festival of Music, thanks to
joint sponsorship from the Shaldon Water Carnival and a Community Grant from
The Arts Society.
“We value the importance of musical experiences for our younger generation and, as such, frequently provide workshops for local school pupils led by professional musicians. This year, with your generous support, we have been able to develop this provision with an exciting, and entirely free of charge, family afternoon concert for local families with young children.” (Shaldon Festival)
The afternoon concert in June was well attended by families with many young children actively participating in the playing of instruments and provided a fascinating journey through the weird and wonderful world and history of the tuba. The programme included instruments ancient and modern, Swiss Alpine Horns, Roman Cornu, Chinese dragon headed trumpets, Aboriginal Didgeridoo, plus many more, and music from classical to jazz, Africa to Hungary.
The Community Grant from The Arts Society was arranged by The Arts Society Teignbridge, and the event attended by members of the Society and The Arts Society South West Area.
