Welcome to The Arts Society Liverpool

About Us
We are based in South Liverpool and we are a member society of The Arts Society.
Our programme runs from September to June each year, with meetings for lectures, each month except December. We hold our lectures in the afternoon at 2.00pm, on the third Wednesday of the month, at the Bridge Chapel Centre, Heath Road, Liverpool, L19 4XR.
Lunch may be taken at the Bridge Chapel Bistro beforehand and car parking is available.
The lectures are illustrated and cover a wide range of the Arts including painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, furniture, architecture, design and many more. Our lecturers are mostly Arts Society accredited speakers and are experts in their fields.
Lectures finish at around 3.30pm. This is followed by the opportunity to talk to fellow members whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. (We ask for a £1 contribution towards refreshments).

During the year, we arrange visits by coach to various places of interest: stately homes, both public and private; gardens; museums and exhibitions. There are also social occasions such as lunches and coffee mornings which are often held in interesting venues.

Membership
We welcome new members at any time. Our individual membership Fee is £50 per annum. Our membership year runs from September to September. If, however, you decide to join during a lecture season the fee is adjusted to reflect the number of lectures remaining.
Non-members can attend ‘taster’ lectures as guest for a donation of £6 per lecture before deciding whether to join. Membership may be taken at anytime.
Membership allows attendance to all lectures and the opportunity to participate in other advertised events. Members also receive a copy of the quarterly The Arts Society magazine.

Heritage Volunteers
Conservation and preservation of our heritage are tremendous burdens on the limited resources of museums, National Trust properties, historic houses, libraries and gardens. Our volunteers help them in non-specialist but vital ways, by caring for collections, recording documents, guiding and stewarding.
A typical example of our volunteers’ work includes providing guides to the Liverpool Victoria Museum and Gallery. We have also recently completed a project scanning Bluecoat School documents going back to the mid 1700s for incorporation in a new website which will make the documents available to the public.

Young Arts
An important charitable element of our Society’s activities is to encourage young people to develop an interest in the Arts through active participation in practical projects. This is done by seeking out suitable initiatives and giving financial support and help to ensure they are brought to fruition.
In 2019 the society supported with agrant, an imaginative modern dance project at Banks Road Primary School in Garston Liverpool. In the coming year the Society has plans to support financially another similar project.
These projects are always enthusiastically taken up by the participants and have proved very successful.
