Gustav Klimt, a lecture by Arts Society acredited lecturer, Lucrezia Walker

Gustav Klimt.
A successful Viennese painter of architectural decorations in a conventional manner, Klimt's later more personal style was criticized as pornographic. He subsequently accepted no more public commissions, but achieved a new success with the paintings of his golden phase, The Kiss being perhaps his most famous.

His work encapsulates turn of the century Vienna at its distinctive artistic peak.

Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer (1914–1916) sold at Sothebys in New York for an astonishing $236.4 million (£179.7 million). This historic sale shattered records, making it the most expensive work of modern art ever sold at auction and the second most expensive artwork overall. [1]
