A unique archive exploring the intersection of photography, tourism, and contemporary visual culture

We are delighted to invite you to a special visit to Casa Planas in Palma — a unique centre for contemporary creation dedicated to exploring the visual culture of tourism.

Home to one of the most important photographic archives in the history of mass tourism, Casa Planas preserves over three million images dating from the 1940s to the 1990s. This extraordinary collection offers a fascinating insight into the early development of tourism in the Balearic Islands, featuring social documentary, domestic scenes, celebrity portraits, hotel advertising, aerial photography, and postcards.

During our guided visit, we will journey through this remarkable archive, discovering how tourism has shaped the cultural and visual identity of the islands. The collection also includes rare materials documenting early photographic and cinematic techniques, providing further depth and context.

Beyond its archival significance, Casa Planas is an active hub for contemporary creativity. Through initiatives such as the Uncovering Archive programme, the centre supports artistic research and encourages new interpretations of tourism and visual culture.

Join us for an inspiring exploration of past and present at this truly distinctive cultural space.
