After having gone baroque, English style went rococo - this lecture will illustrate the difference, looking at furniture and interiors.

This lecture combines looking at furniture with looking at the interiors for which it was designed as it follows the Baroque style from St Peter’s in Rome through Versailles in France to numerous English houses designed by William Kent, whose Palladian classicism was to dominate the early 18th century. After having gone baroque, English style went rococo - the lecture will illustrate the difference!

Arts Society accredited Lecturer: Janusz-Karczewski Słowikowski
Freelance lecturer and researcher in English furniture history and also an antique dealer. I have retired from a 35 year-long career in Higher education. Whilst studying for my first degree, I worked part time in an antiques shop, which I came to take over as proprietor. Such was my interest in collecting that I became known as the dealer who bought but never sold. My lectures seek to explain furniture in terms of the skills and materials employed in its design and construction and also its socio-economic significance. I have lectured on antique furniture since 1975 and have been in the NADFAS Directory since 1982. I have lectured to over 300 NADFAS societies including those in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, The Hague and Spain
