TAS Dorset County support a wild life mural at a local children's ward

26 Jun 2024

Using a grant from the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund given earlier this year, our colleagues at The Art Society Dorset County were able to fund the creation of a vibrant and colourful mural at the entrance to Kingfisher children’s ward at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, an area that was dark, drab and not particularly welcoming.

Assisted by staff and patients, artist Marina Rennee-Cemmick created a stunning wildlife mural. The children’s ward at Dorset County Hospital is now filled with Elephants, Giraffes, a Bee and more! This was a continuation of a work began by Marina in the summer of 2023.

A representative of the hospital said, “We are enormously grateful to ‘The Arts Society, Dorset County’ for making this project possible. They have supported Marina throughout her artistic career, right from her early days at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester. Marina went on to study painting at Glasgow school of Art, an exciting artist, she has exhibited both nationally and internationally.”

Being greeted by a lively art work gives the area a completely different feel and lifts the spirits of young patients, parents, family and friends, not forgetting the hospital staff.

The beneficial effect of such a project has already been demonstrated by the huge amount of appreciation voiced because of the mural completed last year. It is hoped that this latest mural will bring pleasure to all those who see it for years to come.

The Society's support for the project will commemorated by a plaque.
