TAS Beaconsfield Lily Pond Collages

Val McFarlane of The Arts Society Beaconsfield applied for a community grant to enable them to hold two workshops at Bradbury House an Abbeyfield Care Home in Beaconsfield almost next door to where they hold their monthly lectures.
The first session took place on 4th April 2024 and was a great success from every aspect!
The aim was to create a collage with the theme of a Lily pond (there is one in the garden at Bradbury House). The facilitator was Shelley Rees of Creative Mojo (pictured below) who specialise in taking art sessions into care homes. The session took place in the Activities Centre where 2 long tables had been set out with washable cloths covering them. 10 residents joined the activity and Shelley's mother helped together with Val McFarlane and Sarah Dawson from TAS Beaconsfield.
Shelley set out two tables with stimulus material and paints and brushes and the cut out shapes for painting and decorating together with the base for decorating. Residents painted the cut out shapes which were assembled by Shelley on the base. The activity was much enjoyed by all!
The finished lily pad collage will hang in Bradbury House.
One resident had dementia and Shelley provided her with small sponges which she dabbed into the paint and beamed throughout the morning making her prints.
Another spoke of how much she loves colouring and created some beautifully decorated pieces using the photographs Shelley provided on the tales for inspiration. A third lady said she did art at O level and hadn't painted since. Her items were quite detailed and a 4th couldn't wait for her 5 year old great grandson to see the college and she would show him her items!
Take a look at what Shelley and the residents created at the second workshop!
