Shrewsbury CR group hand over Record
5 Feb 2018
Just over two years after starting their project the Arts Society Shrewsbury Church Recorders handed over the Record of Church Furnishings to the Chairman of Trustees of the town’s Unitarian Church. The 145-page bound Record was presented by the team leader, Martin Locke, at a special ceremony on 20 January in the presence of the Mayor, Unitarian Church congregation members and representatives of the Arts Society Shrewsbury committee and membership.
Founded in 1662, the Shrewsbury Unitarian Church is associated with famous names such as Charles Darwin, who attended the church as a young boy, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge , who preached a sermon from the pulpit in 1798.
‘It was a pleasure to be able to hand over the Record after two years’ fascinating research and writing-up’, said Martin, ‘made all the more enjoyable by the warm welcome and help given by the Unitarian Church members during our visits.’
