A grant from the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund enabled The Arts Society Guildford to support Tom Sliwinski to forge ahead in his creative career.
Tom had the opportunity to study the art of animation through a series of 12 sessions with a professional animator at Jellytree productions in Guildford.
Tom paints at Artventure, a Guildford-based charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, physical impairments, or autism to be creative, have fun, and make new friends in a safe and sociable environment. Artventure is planning to show the animated version of Tom’s Train Ghost Story at the Open Studio’s Exhibition in June 2024.
Tom had written a short story which he wanted to animate. Tom initially had 6 sessions at Jellytree Productions and with a grant from The Arts Society was able to continue and enhance the skills and techniques he had begun to acquire. He was able to have 12 more sessions to finish the project and consolidate and embed his learning. Tom feels he has learned skills that he will be able to use in the future long after these sessions ended.
"I have made a lot of progress with my animation and I feel as though it is stretching my art skills further particularly in Digital art. The sessions have been really good and useful and I have more of an understanding on how animation works. I am looking forward to showing the completed piece of work." - Tom Sliwinski
Tom's Mum says his confidence and motivation soared when he was granted the funding to complete his animation project. "It gave him hope for a future career in Art."
