Make Your Mark Winners Announced

23 May 2017

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Make Your Mark Young Arts Competition.

Amy Mitchell Meades, former pupil at Solihull School, won first prize for her work 'Loss of Self' consisting of a series of paintings depicting a man’s journey through Alzheimer’s disease inspired by her Grandad’s experience with Vascular Dementia.

The second prize was awarded to Charlotte Bromley, formerly at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, for her work looking at emotions of distress, stress and frustration beginning by exploring how distorting the face and body can evoke these emotions. Third prize went to Rosie Taylor, formerly at North Leamington School, for her work under the title of Human Anatomy. Lydia Cheung, formerly at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, was Highly Commended for her work focussing on identity and how the way people perceive each other is unique and individual.

The awards were presented on Monday 15 May at a reception hosted by The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. The RBSA have given very generous support by offering their gallery to display the finalists’ work until Saturday 27 May.

The judges were Robert Neil, President of the RBSA; Paul Hipkiss, Hon Curator of the RBSA; and Charlotte Hughes-Martin, Glass Artist. The prizes were awarded by Robert Neil; June Robinson, Chairman of The Arts Society; Andrew Piddock of Coley & Tilley Solicitors, who also gave very generous support; and Charlotte Hughes-Martin.
