SILVER AND GOLD CELEBRATION
A wonderful display of silver was on show at the Carlton-in-Lindrick Civic Centre on July 4th.  The Arts Society Dukeries was celebrating the Golden Jubilee of The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS) and as a special event had augmented their usual monthly lecture with a jewellery fair.  Exhibitors were Francisca Onumah, Aoife White, Giles Kozdon, Daisy Lee, Suzanne Berry and Josephine Gomersall, who are all supported by the Starter-Studio programme for Jewellers and Silversmiths at Yorkshire Artspace;  George Johnson and Victoria Billingham, who work in Kelham Island, Sheffield; Gordon and Sue McDougall; and Laura Baxter, who is based at Welbeck and was recently featured on the BBC TV programme “Countryfile”.  The beautifully crafted pieces on show included items of jewellery, candlesticks, spoons and beakers.   The lecture on “Gold” was given by Emma Paragreen, Curator, Librarian and Archivist of the Sheffield Assay Office which was followed by a lively question and answer session and another chance to browse the stalls.  Over 150 people attended the event, which made a highly successful start to the Society’s programme in their new venue of the Civic Centre.
