Glyndebourne Christmas Concert

Glyndebourne Christmas Concert

14 Dec 2024

We had a wonderful start to Christmas with our trip to the Glyndebourne Christmas Concert.  Several of us enjoying mulled wine and mince pies.

Aidan Oliver led the Glyndebounre Sinfonia, Chorus and Young Opera in an enchanting selection of operatic and seasonal pieces.  The audience also had to 'do some work' and we enjoyed particpiating in the carols.

The scene behind the performers showed Glyndebourne and the surrounding landscape.  Across the performance snow fell and as the Chorus sang 'Rudolph', Santa and his sleigh flew into view.  It was, of course led by the famous red nosed reindeer - a lovely seasonal treat!

A number of nationally acclaimed performers began their careers at Glyndebourne and there may well be stars in the making within The Glyndebourne Youth Opera.  They performed beautifully on Thursday but we don't think any of them are that likley to receive the requested 'Hippopotamus for Christmas'.
