Cockpit Arts and the Greater London Area  (GLA) Award

The GLA have been awarding a bursary each year for a maker at Cockpit since 2016. We have been able to spread these over a wide range of techniques and ages. We see the importance of encouraging those who are capable in their field, but need expertise and advice not only to develop their making skills, but also to develop business skills. Cockpit offers both the space to work and the business coaching, which is so vital. All of our previous recipients have prospered.

The money for these grants arises from the wonderful work that our volunteer Study Course Organisers do…arranging about 25 enjoyable study days a year on a range of fascinating subjects 

Last October, we interviewed several amazing candidates, all of them very skilled and deserving....but at the end of the day Michael bounded into the room …his enthusiasm and knowledge, his commitment and his skill bowled us over. Indeed, we were so fascinated that the session over ran! We were delighted to offer him the award and wish him well for the future.
