Church Trail

Trail of Discovery at St Anne’s Church, Worksop, Notts.

St Anne’s is a relatively new church, as churches go. It was paid for by the local lord of the manor, Sir John Robinson, and opened in 1912, but, despite its relatively young age, it still had plenty to intrigue the young trail followers at the recent launch of The Arts Society Dukeries latest Trail of Discovery. The Year 3 class attends the nearby St Anne’s C. of E. Primary School and although the children are regular visitors to the church, there were many items of interest that the children had never really noticed. The Trail led them to a mouse on the altar rails, carved by Robert “Mousey” Thompson, and a dog carved into the alabaster reredos behind the altar. There is also a large flag displayed, a White Ensign, which came to the church for safe keeping after being used at the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London for Remembrance Sunday in 1927. 
The launch was a very enjoyable afternoon for everyone, children and accompanying adults, and was also the ideal opportunity to invite a PCC member from a church where the Trails team has been asked to make a trail next year.
