Celebrating Young Talent in Sandwich

Celebrating Young Talent in Sandwich

14 Oct 2025

On Monday, 6th October, the Delf Room at the Guildhall in Sandwich was abuzz with creativity and pride as local young artists gathered with their families, friends, and members of The Arts Society Sandwich. The occasion was the Society’s annual awards presentation, honouring exceptional GCSE and A-level art students from Sir Roger Manwood’s School and Sandwich Technology School.

The awards follow a careful selection process that took place in July. A small team from The Arts Society Sandwich, joined by the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Sandwich, Councillor Emmet Csuka, faced the challenging task of choosing prizewinners from an impressive body of student work. The standard was, as always, remarkably high—proof of the extraordinary talent among 15 to 18 year-olds in our community.

Monday’s event was a celebration of that talent. Mayor Csuka addressed the students and a record audience before presenting each young artist with a certificate and award, followed by a photo opportunity. Their artworks were displayed prominently at the front of the hall, where attendees could admire them before and after the Society’s lecture.

In a heartfelt post on social media following the event, Mayor Csuka shared a quote from Pablo Picasso: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” It's a sentiment that resonates deeply with the mission of The Arts Society Sandwich. While not every student may pursue a professional career in the arts, we hope all continue to nurture their creativity and passion—wherever life takes them.
