Book Club Outing to Sa Bassa Blanca

15 Nov 2025

On November 12th, members of the Society’s book club enjoyed an unforgettable day at the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca in Alcudia. Purchased in the 1970s by the artists Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu, the medieval farmhouse and its extensive grounds first served as a creative playground for the couple and their many artist friends. Over time, more and more of their own artworks and treasures from their ever-growing collection found their way into the house and gardens.

A transformative renovation of the former farmhouse by a close friend of the couple, the renowned Moroccan architect Hassan Fathy, turned the estate into a dreamscape of white walls, vaults and domes, gardens and fountains.

In 1993, the owners, together with philanthropist Georges Coulon, established a foundation that enabled the next step: Sa Bassa Blanca became an indoor-outdoor museum, filled with vibrant and ever-evolving life and ideas. To this day, Ben and Yannick remain tireless in their passion to create, collect, transform and rearrange.

Our group enjoyed a guided tour of the house, gaining fascinating insights into the artworks and the vision behind them.

This is a place you truly have to experience in person — to walk among the sculptures, take in the treasures and listen to the stories.

“Too much to take in in one day,” one of our book club friends remarked over lunch at the museum café. We all agreed. And as May was recommended as the best month to visit the sculpture park and OliveArt garden, we headed home knowing one thing: we will be back.
