THE ARTS SOCIETY CHESTER'S GIFT OF MUSIC TO THORN CROSS PRISON
12 Nov 2024
The Art Society Chester has made a remarkable contribution to HMP YOI Thorn Cross by donating guitars, gig bags, and other equipment for a new prison guitar group. This initiative, aims to foster musical talent, boost morale, and promote a restorative culture within the prison.
The first session was a success, bringing together prisoners and staff in a unique setting that fosters mutual respect and cooperation. Guitar setups were carefully adjusted to ensure ease of playing, making the experience more enjoyable for all participants. The new group is already helping to break down traditional barriers, creating a rare opportunity for interaction and creativity in a structured environment.
Plans for future sessions are already underway, and the project’s positive reception hints at its potential to become a lasting part of Thorn Cross's culture. Governor Robbie Durgan and Deputy Governor Andrea Lacey have expressed their appreciation for Chester Art Society’s generosity and are hopeful about the program’s impact.
