Octavia Campbell-Davys has spent the past seven years translating the quiet essence of Mallorca into a distinctive visual language. Rather than focusing on its well-known landmarks or lively beaches, she turns her attention to subtle, often overlooked moments—the shifting shadows on stone walls, the rhythm of water over pebbles, and the fleeting gestures of everyday life.
“It’s about capturing what most passersby might miss,” she explains. This sensitivity to detail defines her work, revealing an island that feels intimate, contemplative, and deeply alive.
With an international background spanning Portugal, the UK, Zambia, and Hungary, Octavia has found a lasting sense of belonging in Mallorca. The island continues to shape her creative vision, drawing her into its quieter corners where she observes and paints scenes that might otherwise go unnoticed—fishermen at work, families by the sea, or the interplay of light and architecture.
Influenced by Edward Hopper’s atmospheric realism and David Hockney’s clarity and composition, her work balances stillness with vibrancy. She also looks to vintage postcards and the sun-drenched imagery of Slim Aarons, weaving together past and present into a timeless perspective.
At the heart of her practice is a fascination with harmony—the dialogue between Mallorca’s natural landscapes and its built environment. Arches echo the curves of bays, and modern structures stand in quiet contrast to rugged mountains. Through her art, Octavia invites viewers to see the island not as a destination, but as a layered, living canvas of light, texture, and emotion.
