For centuries, the closer art was to literature, the greater the art. There were also practical reasons for creating ‘visible poetry’, thus raising the status of artist above that of a mere craftsman. In her lecture, Val will reference artists including Blake, Turner, Bosch, Burne-Jones, Delacroix, Poussin, Rossetti and Millais.
This lecture takes examples of a range of artists from the 15th to the 18th century and puts into words what it is that tells us a picture is a Rubens rather than Rembrandt.
Joanna’s lecture explores the history and development of this wallpapers, from earliest times up to the present day.
