The Arts Society Guernsey postponed its Inaugural Lecture to 23rd September 2020 with the lecture Broken by Life: The Paintings of Vincent van Gogh given by Stella Lyons (via Zoom from her home in the UK). Following the relaxation of social distancing requirements in Guernsey, our sponsor, Rothschild & Co, were able to invite all our Members to a Champagne Reception at our venue prior to the Inaugural Lecture and the lecture was projected very successfully via Zoom onto the big screen in the lecture hall.
On Monday 5 October 2020, we enjoyed a fascinating lecture presented by Professor Marie Conte-Helm MBE entitled The Arts of Japan - Highlights of Japanese Arts andCulture, which was very well attended and sponsored by Art for Guernsey.
Howard Smith gave a delightful lecture - Rupert Bear and his Guernsey Connections, on Wednesday 21 October 2020, in celebration of the centenary of Rupert's creation by Guernseyman Herbert Tourtel.The lecture was sponsored by Canaccord Genuity.
The fourth lecture of the season, was presented by Simon Seligman and took place on Monday 2 November 2020 - Chatsworth and the story of the Devonshire Family from 1549 to the present day. The evening proved very popular with members and our thanks goes to Ravenscroft for sponsoring the event and the pre-lecture drinks.
Cazenove Capital kindly sponsored our fifth lecture on Wednesday 18 November 2020, together with a much appreciated champagne and canape pre-lecture reception. The lecture was entitled What have the Huguenots ever done for us? and was given by Vivienne Lawes. The evening was fabulous and much enjoyed by all those present.
The final lecture of the first lecture season actually took place on 21 January 2021, Bankrolling the Renaissance - A History of the Medici Family was very well supported and was generously sponsored by Hiscox.
Our lecture venue is Les Cotils Centre, St Peter Port. Doors open at 6.00pm and the lecture will start at 7.00pm.
